Gratitude is not a lesson to be learned like English or Math. It’s not something I can MAKE my kids understand. It is not something I can shame my kids into either. I have to model it. I have to model HOW to be grateful to them.

I’m officially in the final week of my thirties and to be honest, I’m actually struggling a bit with this one. I thought I’d be excited and sort of let time roll along, but turning forty is a pretty major milestone and it’s made me reflect on all the things (good and bad) that happened during the decade of my thirties.

I know and love people who are members of that community and firmly believe that if you don’t believe in human rights for everyone, than you don’t believe in human rights for anyone.

“Stop telling me that my damn kid is going to grow up fast and I’m going to miss this stage!” I actually used to scream that in my head when someone told me that I should just ’embrace it’, because one of these days they will be grown and I’ll look back and regret that I wished it away.
